Meet the Farmers | Amber & Gonzalo Valencia

Nice to meet you! My name is Amber. I am half of the farmer team. The other half is my husband Gonzalo. We met in Afghanistan as civilian contractors and the rest is history. We both served in the United States Army and are now Disabled Veterans. We have been married for 6 years and we have three kiddos: Annabelle, Madeline, and Remington. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV and Gonzo was born and raised in San Diego, CA. We moved up to Northern Nevada in 2015.

We have had a garden since we moved in together. We both grew up gardening with our families as well. Gonzo's mom even had quite a few farm animals at one point. We really enjoy growing and have always talked about one day owning a farm and providing for our communities and being able to eat as much as possible from animals and things we grew on our farm. Plus, the kids get so excited to go out in the yard and pick fruits and veggies and then bring them inside and watch us cook them. I have been canning since I was very young with my Grandparents when they would bring fruit and veggies from their travels back to the family land in Indiana. I love being crafty and making as much the products that we use as possible, with the hope of making more and more as time goes on. Gonzo loves to build things and can pretty much listen to an idea I have and make a plan and execute it perfectly.

We never thought that dream would become a reality. We decided to take a chance and pull the trigger on trying to make this dream a reality. We bought some land and are working on building our dream, step by step, together. We started with a garden, then got some chickens, and then some ducks; now we're working on so much more. We hope that by sharing our journey with you that you are inspired to follow your dream no matter how unconventional it may be.
